AKA Puddin' Tain

Greetings Funkabilly Fans from your friendly neighborhood bass player!!!!

More than a few days late and, hopefully, not a dollar short, I'm really excited to get my web page in order.

Since this is my first installment, I'll just fill you in on my plans for this page and you can send me feedback as things progress.

First off, I'm going to list the equipment that I'm using (and am trying out) at the moment, in hopes that other musicians will chime in with their experiences and thoughts on setup and anything else.

(Random thought...it happens a lot) One of my favorite parts of being a musician is the exchange of ideas, both musically and verbally. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but the musicians of South Florida used to have a better sense of community and did more together and for one another and I have a hope that this small page will, at least, start some new dialog.

Next, I'll have a section on who I'm listening to and have seen locally that's blown me away. Right now, I have all of my old vinyl records out and listening all a lot of Warren Zevon, who's been of great inspiration to me. Warren is now dying of lung cancer (and still smoking non-filters...go get 'em!!!). I spent New Year's Eve of 1995 with him and it will always be a great memory. Check out his new album that has some great guys on it (Springsteen, Tom Petty are among the heavyweights).

Also, this page will contain some pics from my non-musical life and the trips I take and the trouble I find along the way.

Hope you have fun playing along and don't forget to participate!!!

Current Gear (pics to come)

My main bass is a MTD 535-24 Serial # 227. Mike Tobias built this bass as a one-off for the Summer of 1997 NAMM show. Tom Snellgrove (who owns Music & More in Davie, FL) acquired this bass, new, sold it to me and has been trying to get it back every since! GOOD LUCK TOM!!! I've been playing Mike's basses since the mid '80s and this one is very special...one of a kind...I'm a very lucky guy.

My main amp setup is a 1996 David Eden 500, that I also bought from Tom and have not been able to replace it. I've been through every amp imaginable and keep coming back to this one...must be love.

My speaker cab is currently a Bergantino 310 (not sure they're still making this model, but their website will tell) that I ALSO bought from Tom at Music & More (you'd think this guy would send me a Christmas card or something!!!) and it just flat rocks! I've used almost every high end bass cab out there and this thing is just the dog's danglies. I may try their 322 cab, which is loaded with two 10s, a 12 and a horn, but I don't know why as this one is VERY good.

This would be incomplete if I didn't mention my trusty MuTron...always on the ready.

Well folks, I'll bid you all adieu and see you Saturday night at O'Hara's in Fort Lauderdale for Ellen's 29th Birthday Party!!! Rock on, Girl!
